Should You Fix Your Credit Or Hire a Professional?

By Janice Mbui

It may be difficult to repair your credit - but it's not impossible. Luckily, there is hope for people who have found themselves in a financial bind and need to improve their circumstances. Having a good credit score is vitally important if you want to apply for any type of credit in the future - and it affects the interest rate you potentially get as a result.

Repairing bad credit is not easy, but credit repair is something that can be learned by any consumer who is willing to put in the time and effort. There are also affordable credit repair firms that will repair your bad credit for you. Repairs can either be major or minor.
Repairing your own credit is like repairing your own transmission or representing yourself in court; it is possible, but you must decide if you are willing to take the time and assume the risks of doing it yourself.

Bad credit is embarrassing, humiliating, and depressing because most creditors believe a bad credit report dictates a persons worth and value as a responsible human being. Bad credit repair service typically begins by evaluating your financial situation for the purpose of negotiating better interest rates with your creditors and helps you create a budget and payment plan. They also offer financial advice on using your credit cards properly to avoid falling into debt again. Bad credit creates problem for everyone. Nobody wants to live with a bad debt to credit ratio, as it would bring you a lot of problems while applying for getting a new credit card or getting funds for loans or mortgages.
Bad debts can ruin your lifestyle and even your health through stress.

Negative credit is allowed to stay on the credit report for a maximum of seven and one half years, except for bankruptcy which may remain on the credit report for ten years. Under the old Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the seven year clock began ticking on "the date of last activity" or, in other words, when the last action took place on the account. Negative items and judgments taken against the consumer shall remain on their credit report for 7 years while bankruptcies shall remain for 10 years. Negative information is not just late payments and money owed. Negative information is also credit inquiries.

Consumers should understand that the credit repair field is constantly changing - banks, laws, politics and government are continually changing, adapting and altering the rules. For this reason, a professional dedicated to the credit repair field can make a world of difference to your success at credit repair. Consumers can now shop for credit and find the best terms to meet their needs. Each time someone runs a credit check on you, it creates an inquiry.

Lenders and consumers can see these inquiries. Soft inquiries are displayed only to the consumer and can occur when you request your own report or when one of your existing creditors reviews your account. Consumer credit counseling services are organizations which help you to find a way to repay debts through careful budgeting and management of funds. They're usually non-profit organizations, funded by creditors.

Removing an item from your report DOES NOT eliminate your obligation for payment. It simply will not appear when a potential credit grantor is looking at your report. Remove the lint trap from the dryer. Use an attachment from a vacuum cleaner to eliminate all signs of accumulated lint from the trap. Removing errors is simple. Deleting negative credit that is accurate requires advanced methods.

Errors on your credit report may take a variety of forms from simple spelling errors or no new address reported to fraudulent uses of your credit to obtain financing for purchases. There are two different ways to correct or "dispute" this information; online or in writing.
